Democratic candidates who oppose data center expansion won state and congressional races across the country on Tuesday. Wired and Gizmodo both report that candidates who voiced opposition to the data center industry secured victories in key states, including the data center hotspot of Texas. [1][3][5][6][7]

Wired reported that the election results prompted some data center enthusiasts to promote building data centers in space instead of on Earth. Meanwhile, Bloomberg Tech reported that bonds for CoreWeave Inc. fell to new lows on Wednesday following victories by Democratic gubernatorial candidates who favor slowing down local construction. [1][6]

CNET reported that OpenAI is proposing to rebrand data centers as AI compute campuses as part of a post-midterms campaign. As FTMQ Tech reported earlier, OpenAI planned a public relations push following the elections to influence artificial intelligence policy, while technology companies have faced high costs, with five major data center players committing over 3 trillion dollars in future spending. [2][11][12]

Data centers house computer systems to manage digital information and train artificial intelligence models. SlashGear reported that cooling serves as one of the largest ongoing expenses for these facilities, with estimates showing cooling can use up to 40% of total electricity in a data center. [4][10]
