Google released its SynthID detector tool globally to the general public on Tuesday, October 7. MacRumors, Digital Trends, Tom's Guide, Ars Technica, 9to5Google, and TechCrunch all report that the website allows users to upload media files to check whether they contain an artificial intelligence watermark. The service launched to journalists last year and is now available worldwide in English. [1][2][3][4][5][6]

According to Tom's Guide, the platform accepts common file formats including JPG, PNG, WEBP, HEIC, GIF, MP4, MOV, WEBM, MP3, WAV, AAC, and M4A. Ars Technica and Tom's Guide report that the tool detects watermarks created by Google, OpenAI, Nvidia, and Kakao. 9to5Google notes that support for Apple models is planned for the future. [3][4][5]

Tom's Guide reports that SynthID watermarks have already been applied to more than 100 billion images and videos alongside 60,000 years of audio content. Ars Technica reports that users must sign in using a Google, OpenAI, or Apple account to access the service. The website limits each person to a daily quota of approximately 10 file checks to prevent misuse. [3][4]
