Amazon Prime Video released the first full-length trailer for its upcoming television series Blade Runner 2099 on October 10 at New York Comic Con, Gizmodo reported. The release follows a shorter teaser trailer that debuted at San Diego Comic-Con in July. [1]

According to Gizmodo, showrunner Silka Luisa spoke about the plot of the new series during a Saturday evening panel at the convention. The show is set 50 years after the events depicted in the film Blade Runner 2049, following a successful replicant uprising in which humans lost control to their synthetic creations. [1]

The original Blade Runner franchise began with the 1982 science fiction film directed by Ridley Scott and adapted from the 1968 Philip K. Dick novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?. The initial movie was set in a dystopian 2019 Los Angeles and starred Harrison Ford as Rick Deckard, a cop tasked with hunting down bio-engineered synthetic humans known as replicants. [2]

Although the original 1982 film underperformed at the box office with a worldwide yield of about 39 million dollars on a 30 million dollar budget, it earned Academy Award nominations for Best Art Direction and Best Visual Effects. The franchise subsequently gained broader acclaim through later re-releases and director cuts. [4]
