Warhound emerged from stealth on Thursday after raising 200 million dollars in funding, TechCrunch reported. The company aims to genetically engineer dogs for the United States military, law enforcement, and emergency response teams. TechCrunch noted that the investment round values the firm at 1.2 billion dollars. [1]

The funding round includes investments from In-Q-Tel, Sequoia, and 8VC, according to TechCrunch. Warhound was created by Ben Lamm of Colossal Biosciences and Palmer Luckey. The engineered dogs are intended to perform dangerous or complex tasks such as bomb detection and search operations. [1]

Luckey previously co-founded Anduril Industries in 2017, an American military technology company that specializes in autonomous systems. Anduril develops artificial intelligence and robotics products for the United States Department of Defense, including unmanned aerial systems and command software. [1][3]

Warhound stated in its launch announcement that more than 80 percent of working dogs perform tasks that remain difficult for machines or hazardous for humans, TechCrunch reported. [1]
