Microsoft has received offers from multiple companies to purchase video game developer Arkane Studios, Engadget, PC Gamer, and Bloomberg reported. French video game publisher Ubisoft and at least two other gaming businesses have submitted bids for the studio, according to reports by Engadget, IGN, and Shane the Gamer. [1][2][3][5][6][10]
The potential sale comes after Xbox announced major workforce cuts in July, which sparked speculation that Arkane could face closure or project cancellations, Engadget reported. Shane the Gamer reported that Xbox has set a December deadline for the potential transaction. [1][6]
Arkane is currently finishing work on Marvel's Blade, Pure Xbox and Kotaku reported. Founded in 1999 in Lyon, France, the developer created the Dishonored franchise and Deathloop, while its upcoming game follows Marvel Comics vampire hunter Eric Brooks in Paris. [4][7][8][9]
A deal with Ubisoft or another buyer would allow Arkane to avoid potential closure under Microsoft and complete its current project, according to reports by Engadget and Kotaku. [1][7]
