Google is responding to political backlash on Tuesday over its policy regarding artificial intelligence in schools, CNBC Tech reported. The issue arose after The New York Times published a report stating that Google will turn off its search engine for schools that reject artificial intelligence entirely. [1]

In response to the criticism, Google stated in a blog post titled Designing responsible AI for learning that search can be turned back on with AI Overviews. According to CNBC Tech, Google also announced that it is introducing artificial intelligence into its Classroom product through a feature called Guided Learning. [1]

The reported policy drew criticism from prominent left leaning political figures, CNBC Tech reported. United States Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani both expressed outrage over Google turning off search access at schools that ban artificial intelligence. [1]

Google is an American multinational technology corporation that focuses on search engine technology, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence, operating as a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc. Its search engine handles billions of queries every day and holds approximately 90 percent of global searches. [2][3]
