Meta has reached a new stock agreement with chief executive officer Mark Zuckerberg to keep him residing in California, according to Bloomberg Tech, the Financial Times, and Wired. Wired reported that during a September 9 dinner with Meta board members, Zuckerberg informed them that he was considering leaving the state due to a proposed billionaires tax ballot measure known as Proposition 40. [1][2][4]

According to Wired, the filing showed that Zuckerberg planned to list his Palo Alto home for sale shortly after the dinner, prompting board concerns that his departure could disrupt the company artificial intelligence plans. The proposed tax measure calls for a one-time 5 percent levy on stock and assets held by billionaires in California as of January 2026. Wired noted that the measure could face legal challenges even if voters pass it. [4]

To resolve the issue, Meta agreed to issue a new arrangement to protect his position. The Financial Times reported that the group will create a new class of non-voting shares, allowing stock sales without diluting the control of the founder. Bloomberg Tech and Wired both noted that the deal provides financial incentives to keep Zuckerberg living in the same jurisdiction as Meta headquarters. [1][2][4]

Separately, Engadget reported that Zuckerberg expects Meta new personal agent, called Muse, to eventually generate more revenue per user than Facebook and Instagram. Even though Muse is currently limited to users in the United States and Canada, Engadget stated that more than 10 million people have already adopted the agent. [3]
