Meta has started testing a feature called Threads Friends on its microblogging platform Threads, Engadget reported. The test is currently underway for users located in Ireland, Italy, and Japan. [1]
According to Engadget, the new feature acts as a close friends list that lets people restrict their posts to a maximum of 50 designated friends, which the app also refers to as Thriends. These selected posts will not be visible to anyone else on the social media platform. [1]
Threads is a social networking service operated by Meta Platforms that requires an Instagram account for access. It launched in 2023 and acquired more than 100 million users in its first five days, reaching over 400 million monthly active users by August 2025. [2]
Engadget noted that the tool is similar to Twitter Circle, a feature introduced by Twitter in 2022 that allowed sharing with up to 150 users. Twitter shut down that capability approximately one year after its launch. [1]
