YouTube tests moving the dislike button into a hidden menu

YouTube is testing changes that move the dislike button into a separate overflow menu, which could make it harder for users to express negative feedback on videos.

YouTube appears to be testing a design update that hides the dislike button on videos, according to a report by The Verge citing 9to5Google. At least two users on X shared screenshots showing the dislike button relocated inside a three-dots submenu. Additionally, a user on Reddit reported that the dislike button was completely missing from their view. [1]

Under the standard YouTube layout, the dislike button sits directly next to the like button underneath the video player. Moving the dislike option into a secondary submenu requires additional steps from users, which makes it harder to access and could reduce how often people use it. [1]

YouTube is an American video-sharing platform owned by Google, which bought the site in November 2006 for 1.65 billion dollars in stock. Headquartered in San Bruno, California, it is the second-most-visited website in the world after Google itself. The platform recorded more than 2.7 billion monthly active users, who collectively watch over one billion hours of video every day. [2][3]

The platform continues to see massive amounts of content added to its library constantly. Creators upload more than 500 hours of video every minute, which equals approximately 720,000 hours of new video added to the platform each day. [2][3]
