More than 200,000 employees across the technology industry have been laid off during 2026, Yahoo Tech reported on November 5. According to the publication, the United States is at the center of the job cuts, with further reductions expected before the year ends. [1]
Yahoo Tech reported that Oracle has experienced the largest impact from layoffs so far this year, based on its annual financial disclosure filed on June 23. In June alone, 14,000 total job cuts occurred across companies such as electric vehicle maker Lucid, game developer Bungie, and trading platform Robinhood. [1]
Microsoft executed a round of layoffs in July that affected 4,800 jobs, primarily in its Xbox gaming division, Yahoo Tech reported. Other major technology firms, including Samsung, Zillow, and TikTok, also reduced staff following those cuts. [1]
The latest cuts build on broader restructuring across the sector. As FTMQ Tech reported earlier, graphic design software company Canva restructured 22 percent of its workforce, cutting 1,271 roles after experiencing its first growth slowdown in a decade. [12]
