Google will discontinue its free emergency LTE Safety Signal feature for Pixel Watch 2 and Pixel Watch 3 owners on December 12.

Google is ending support for its Safety Signal emergency feature on LTE-enabled Pixel Watch models. Android Police, Engadget, How-To Geek, 9to5Google, and Gagadget.com all report that the service will end on December 12. Owners of the affected devices will lose free emergency cellular access after that date. [1][2][3][4][9]
Safety Signal was built to provide core emergency tools without requiring an active carrier plan or a Bluetooth connection to a phone. Engadget and 9to5Google report that the tool supported features such as Emergency SOS, Fall Detection, and calls to emergency contacts over an LTE connection. Engadget notes that Google only ever offered Safety Signal on the LTE versions of the Pixel Watch 2 and Pixel Watch 3. [2][4]
How-To Geek and 9to5Google report that users will now need an active cellular plan or a connection to a phone or the internet to continue using these safety tools. The original Pixel Watch launched in 2022 with a circular design, health tracking tools, and built-in standalone GPS capabilities. [3][4][11]
The change means LTE smartwatch owners who do not pay for a standalone wearable cellular plan will no longer have access to automatic emergency dialing or fall alerts when away from their primary phone. [2][3][4]
In short
- Google is shutting down Safety Signal on December 12.
- Safety Signal was only available on LTE models of the Pixel Watch 2 and Pixel Watch 3.
- The feature allowed Emergency SOS and Fall Detection to work without a paid mobile plan.
- Pixel Watch users will need a phone connection or active cellular plan to use safety features after the shutdown.
