Artificial intelligence firm OpenAI is seeking fresh capital from existing investors to push its valuation to $1.4 trillion or more ahead of an expected stock market listing by its rival Anthropic, Gizmodo reported. OpenAI is targeting previous backers, including SoftBank and Abu Dhabi investment firm MGX, as part of what was described as an unusually fast fundraising strategy. [2]
Anthropic has maintained a higher valuation than OpenAI since May 2026, according to Gizmodo. Late last month, financial analysts projected that Anthropic could reach a $2 trillion valuation during its November initial public offering, although recent market estimates suggest its market capitalization after the offering could land closer to $1.5 trillion. [2]
Anthropic is a public benefit corporation based in San Francisco, California. Former OpenAI members, including siblings Daniela Amodei and Dario Amodei, founded the company in January 2021 to focus on artificial intelligence safety. Its main product line is the Claude series of large language models, and the business was valued at $965 billion during a funding round in May 2026. [4]
The Financial Times is scheduling a live interactive session with its technology journalists on October 22 to discuss whether Anthropic's public listing will mark a major shift for the broader artificial intelligence industry. [1][3]
