Apple has announced updated models of the iMac desktop and the entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro, according to Ars Technica, The Verge, and GSM Arena. Both machines are receiving Apple's sixth-generation M6 processor, which Ars Technica and The Verge note was introduced several weeks ago in the Mac mini. [1][6][7]

The 14-inch MacBook Pro features one M6 chip option with a 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU, Ars Technica reported. The laptop supports up to 32GB of RAM and 4TB of storage, while Mashable reported that prices start at $1,999 for a base model with 16GB of RAM and a 1TB solid-state drive. According to Mashable, preorders open on October 28 at 10:10 a.m. PT, with full availability beginning on November 6. Mashable also reported that the machine offers up to 24 hours of battery life. For the iMac, Apple offers two distinct M6 chip configurations, Ars Technica reported. The two-port Thunderbolt model includes a 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU, supporting up to 24GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. The four-port Thunderbolt variant provides a 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU, with support for up to 32GB of RAM and 2TB of storage. Ars Technica added that an N1 chip brings Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 support to the refreshed lineup. [1]

The MacBook Pro high-end laptop line was introduced in 2006, replacing the PowerBook series. Apple silicon models of the all-in-one iMac were introduced in 2021, featuring a 24-inch display in a thin aluminum enclosure. [13][14]
